Consumer hardware 2026 Concept project

Meridian

A design system and web platform giving a hardware brand one consistent voice across every surface.

This is a concept exploration created by Senume. It does not describe a client engagement, and no results are claimed as real.

The problem

Product pages, support docs and the desktop companion app had each evolved separately. The brand looked different everywhere, and every change had to be made three times.

Role
Design system and front-end platform
Timeline
16 weeks (concept)
Services
Strategy, Design System, Web Engineering
Platforms
Web, Desktop companion
Technology
  • Astro
  • TypeScript
  • Design tokens
  • Electron
  • Vercel

Constraints

  1. Pages must load fast on modest mobile connections worldwide.

  2. Marketing needs to publish without engineering support.

  3. The desktop app and website must share visual language without sharing a framework.

Solution

We began with an audit of every surface and found over forty shades of the same grey. The first deliverable was not a component but a vocabulary: a compact token set for colour, type, spacing and motion, named for intent rather than appearance.

Those tokens compile into CSS custom properties for the Astro website and a theme module for the Electron companion app. The result is a brand that feels consistent everywhere, maintained in one place.

A single token source radiates out to every product surface.

How it flows

  1. Tokens
  2. Components
  3. Web
  4. Desktop app
  5. Docs

Components map to tokens explicitly, so changes are predictable.

Results

Intended outcomes — concept project

  • One source of tokens

Colour, type and motion tokens generate styles for web and desktop alike.

  • Static-first performance

Pages are pre-rendered and ship minimal JavaScript by default.

  • Autonomous publishing

Content editors compose pages from documented blocks with guardrails.

What we learned

  • Tokens are a contract between teams; naming them well is half the work.
  • A small set of excellent components beats a large library nobody trusts.
